EU "overzealous" with Kent winery, says MEP.

 Wednesday 09 May 2012

An overzealous interpretation of EU law is to blame for a Kent winery not being allowed to label some of its bottles “wine”, according to a Conservative MEP. Chapel Down in Tenterden imported grapes from Argentina intending to make a "Kent Malbec” but have been told that under EU rules they can't call it wine because the grapes have been imported from outside of Europe. South East MEP Richard Ashworth has tasted it. He says it is right to label things correctly, but this is certainly going too far.
